The Locust Grove Literary Society was founded in 1995 in Meridian, Idaho. Started by a few church ladies who like to read, it has grown to about 20 consistent members over the past 12 years.

We meet once a month January through November. Members take turns hosting the meetings and choosing the books. Discussion includes why the book was chosen, information about the author, and likes and dislikes of plot, character, etc. Dessert and conversation follow, making the evening a wonderful “girls night out” with an educational bonus.

One advantage of being in a book club is expanding your horizons by reading books that you may not have selected yourself. We have high standards of decency in the books we choose. For the most part, we enjoy classics and tend to avoid self-helps.

Feel free to browse our list of “Past Reads” for ideas. If you would like to comment, review a book, or suggest a book, we welcome your input.

Thanks for visiting our site. Enjoy Reading!!!

"Today, with the abundance of book available, it is the mark of a truly educated man to know what not to read. ...Feed only on the best. As John Wesley's mother counseled him: 'Avoid whatever weakens your reason, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, takes off your relish for spiritual things, ...increases the authority of the body over the mind.'"
- Ezra Taft Benson
